My Story
With over 25 years in the equine industry, Hilary Watson brings a wide range of experience to her training and teaching. From carriage horses to top-level A-circuit hunters, jumpers, dressage, and young horses, her diverse background has shaped a well-rounded, thoughtful approach to horsemanship.
She’s worked with respected professionals like Mike McCormick & Tracy Fenney, and Brandie & Hunter Holloway, with show seasons on both coasts—from Wellington, FL and New York to Thermal, CA. In 2010, Hilary also spent time training in Europe, and in 2018 proudly earned her USHJA Trainer Certification.
In 2014, she founded 214Saddles and became certified through the Master Saddlers Association. With a strong foundation in equine anatomy, rider biomechanics, and customer care, she’s helped countless horses and riders find comfort and performance through proper saddle fit. She loves the challenge of fitting tricky horses and believes comfort and connection can transform a horse’s way of going.
Hilary has worked with riders of all levels—from first-timers to serious competitors—always emphasizing safety, partnership, and a solid foundation. Her background in dressage and classical horsemanship helps her create trust between horse and rider, both in and out of the saddle. Over the years, she’s also started numerous young horses, including her own homebreds, and supported other trainers in their young horse programs. She’s a firm believer in not rushing the process and laying a thorough foundation in the first 60 days.
She’s also found success in the show ring—both bringing along young hunters and jumpers and helping her students shine through positive, confidence-building coaching. With a patient and consistent approach, Hilary helps green horses and riders navigate those all-important first show experiences, making it fun, rewarding, and often ribbon-worthy!
